Custom Facebook Thumbnail Like A Pro With The Help Of These 6 Tips

Show Notes:

So, I am live early this morning, yes right now you are seeing my business Facebook page; but I wanted to come on because I want to tell you guys how to change your thumbnails for your Facebook live videos. Why is this important? I’ll tell you why it's important. It’s important because sometimes we can have videos that end up with the thumbnail that Facebook choose and it’s not very appealing or pleasing to the eye and so it can also reduce the amount of clicks/views; meaning the amount of people who will go back and actually watch your video.

So with that being said, right now I am on my Facebook business page. Most of you guys have one and if you don't make one. But regardless, what you need to do is go to your Videos tab. I’m going to choose my Facebook live episode from yesterday since it's still fairly new.

Select edit video. From the three little dots (I forgot what the word is but I know it starts with an “e”), you want to click edit video. Right here you'll see the word custom. That is where you can change the thumbnail of your video so you have a few options. One thing that you can do is, you can continue to use the arrow which will basically show you different thumbnails that Facebook thinks would work well for your video. You can use these if you like any of them.

Sometimes they are boring or not engaging.

Select from the options they give you and click Save or you can click custom here and now it's going to take you into your own computer hard-drive where you can access your files. I have the actual Facebook live folder that I keep on my desktop and what that allows me to do is whenever I go live on Thursdays, I already preload certain things so I'm not scrambling.

I already made a custom thumbnail for this particular episode.

Since it's already done, all you have to do is select the image that you want as your thumbnail. Click open and it will become your thumbnail. Now like I said, everyone has their own preference. If you want to show your face for certain episodes. If you feel like the way you looked on that episode was better - than you know how to add a custom thumbnail like this which is just a photo with words.

By all means I use that but for me sometimes I prefer to have the custom thumbnail that's more consistent and I'll go over that as well in this video so I'm not counting like tip number one. I'm just kind of telling you as I go along what they are.

Hit save and then Facebook is going to save that and when you go back to your page it has to refresh and do it’s thing. Go back to your video tab and when you go back to it - there's the new thumbnail that you created. It all depends on what you want.

On some of my videos my face is showing. Some are a thumbnail from a specific video because it's relevant to what I uploaded, but for the most part you can really create a thumbnail for every video that you load so there really shouldn't be a reason why you can't create one. It does help when people are coming to your page and they're looking at your content. It also helps if they're looking for specific things because having a custom thumbnail; especially with a large text cover on it - they’ll see and be able to choose what they want.
